Goat Farming Industry

Importance of the Goat Farming Industry

Goats are multi-purpose animals which can supply meat, milk and fibre.  Over one hundred (100) breeds of goat world wide are bred for meat, milk and fibre.  Today, a large number of persons worldwide drink milk and eat meat from goats than from any other animal.

In Trinidad and Tobago, most dairy farms are individually run primarily by a male farmer with the assistance of his spouse and or children.  A few larger farms exist where production is overseen by a farm manager.

The main purpose of rearing dairy goats is for milk.  Some farmers sell the goat's milk in their communities while others sell to groceries.
