Vegetable Farming

Is Goat Manure Good Fertilizer?

A few years ago, the only readily available manure were cow and horse manure.  Today, goat manure is one of the best animal manures for healthy soil and plants.

Goat manure, like sheep manure, is drier than cow and horse manure. It has less odor, easier to work with and composts more quickly.

Goat manure is higher in nitrogen than horse and cow manures. Composted manures are beneficial soil amendments for vegetable growers. Research show that composted manures can increase vegetable yield.  According to the Ohio State University Extension, on average, it has 22 pounds of nitrogen in 1 ton while cow manure has only 10 pounds of nitrogen in 1 ton.

Goat manure is an excellent soil conditioner for gardens. It improves the soil texture so it uses water more efficiently and allows more oxygen to reach the plants' roots. Goat manure, like all manures, offers a low-cost, natural source of nitrogen and other nutrients.

Fresh animal manure, including goat manure, can contain pathogens that can make people sick. Always use well-composted goat manure, especially if you're using the manure on edible crops.
Using goat manure in garden beds can create the optimal growing conditions for your flowering plants, herbs, vegetables, and fruit trees. Goat manure can even be composted and used as mulch.

One of the most common uses for goat manure is as a fertilizer. Goat manure fertilizer can help gardeners produce healthier plants and crop yields. Goat’s manure do not typically attract insects or burn plants as that from horses and cows.
